Doctorcall Medical Services are among the UK's leading private medical groups. Established in 1989, Doctorcall was the first visiting doctor service in the UK, although they now offer many other services besides (including sexual health tests, physiotherapy treatments, occupational health checks, and cosmetic treatments such as Botox®).
 
If you've never heard of Doctorcall before, here's a brief introduction:
 
 
Doctorcall first contacted Designer Websites in late 2014. Their website at that time was a self-made Wordpress solution, but what they needed was a professional, bespoke business website to represent their long-established brand in the best way possible, and we were the company tasked with delivering this.
 
Here are some of the features that Doctorcall requested for their new and improved website:
  • Fully integrated Qinec booking system
  • Ecommerce system with online payments powered by Sage Pay
  • Mobile-friendly responsive design
  • Blog engine to allow Doctorcall's staff to post news and updates

What happened next?

We worked closely with Doctorcall to design and develop a new website that was tailored to their specific requirements. The new site went live in March 2015, and the impact of our work was visible almost immediately - the site's total traffic for April was almost 20% higher than in April 2014:

An even more pronounced improvement was visible in Doctorcall's mobile stats - total mobile traffic for April 2015 was 41% higher than the same total one year earlier:

This demonstrates the difference that a responsive, mobile-friendly website design can make - at time of writing, mobile users make up roughly 40% of Doctorcall's total visitors!
 
It's also worth noting just how well the Doctorcall website has been performing from an ecommerce standpoint. When developing the new site, we incorporated a shopping basket system that would allow visitors to purchase certain Doctorcall products (such as home testing kits and anti-ageing creams) over the web.
 
This approach appears to have worked wonders for the business - site revenue increased by almost 90% between June and July 2015!

First Encounters Ultrasound is a company that provides private pregnancy scans for expectant parents. They have a state-of-the-art clinic in Cardiff, and are among the UK's leading experts on 3D/4D ultrasound technology.
 
While First Encounters offer a variety of different scan packages, the company specialise in 4D ultrasound scans, which allow you to get a detailed look at your unborn baby:

 
We recently designed a new website for First Encounters Ultrasound, and since then, they've seen a major boost in traffic and enquiries. The new and improved version of their website (www.firstencounters.co.uk) went live on the 2nd of June 2015; the following thirty-day period saw an 18.79% increase in organic Google traffic. That's almost 800 extra visitors over the course of just one month!

This additional traffic comes thanks to some superb organic rankings. At the time of writing this post, the website now appears on the first page* of Google results for a number of relevant keywords, including 4d scan, 4d pregnancy scan, and gender scan (*please note that Google results may vary based on your location).

Responsive Design & Mobile Traffic

One of the biggest driving factors behind the decision to redesign the First Encounters website was the continuing swing away from desktop computers and towards mobile browsing. The First Encounters team wanted a site that would look good and function well on smartphones and tablets (as well as on larger devices), and our web design specialists rose to the challenge as usual, creating a responsive, user-friendly website that adapts to any screen size:

 
 
We are very proud of the website that we created for First Encounters, and sure enough, our efforts to make the site 'mobile-friendly' yielded great results. After the new site went live, First Encounters saw a 66% increase in mobile traffic, and a 27% increase in traffic from tablets:

PPC Advertising: Google AdWords

Once we had completed the new First Encounters website, our PPC specialists were asked to take over the company's Google AdWords account. Within thirty days, we had increased the site's AdWords traffic by a spectacular 90% (roughly 1,160 extra visitors) - and all without any change to the company's AdWords budget!
 
 
First Encounters received a total of 315 bookings in June 2015 - their highest monthly total to date! Here's what Warren Boulton, the company's Commercial Director, had to say about this outcome:

New Modelmakers website

As one of the UK's leading providers of architectural models and interactive displays, Modelmakers wanted to make sure that their website represented their brand in the best possible light. While the existing Modelmakers site was functional and ranked highly on Google and other search engines, the company's owners were concerned that mobile visitors might not be receiving a satisfactory experience from the website, which had not been designed with smartphones in mind.

With mobile and tablet users accounting for more than a quarter of Modelmakers' overall site traffic, it was clear that this situation had to change. We were asked to create a new, responsive design for modelmakers-uk.co.uk, which now looks great and functions superbly on mobile devices as well as on larger devices such as laptops and PCs.

This project's most crucial requirement was the need to preserve Modelmakers' branding and high rankings whilst updating the site and improving its user experience. Our designers achieved this by adapting the old design into a dynamic new look that automatically adapts to the screen on which it is being viewed; meanwhile, our SEO and UI specialists worked carefully to make the site better without losing any of the elements that have made Modelmakers such a successful enterprise to date.

My Garment Factory Cardiff is a personalised clothing website targeted - as the name suggests - specifically at Cardiff and the surrounding area. The site was set up with the aim of cornering the custom clothing market in South Wales, and the MGF team are certainly doing well on this front; they already occupy some of the top Google results for terms like printed clothing Cardiff and embroidered clothing Cardiff.
 
With traffic pouring in and their website now established as a major competitor within its target market, MGF started thinking about how they might improve the service they offer. Wishing to maximise their website's conversion rate, they contacted us to ask if we could help them to make the site more mobile-friendly; they were receiving plenty of visits from smartphones and other mobile devices, and they wanted to ensure that they weren't letting this potentially valuable traffic go to waste.
 
So we set about creating a responsive design for My Garment Factory Cardiff, and we're pleased to announce that the new version of the website is now live. Being responsive means that the new design adapts to your screen size; for example, if you visit www.mygarmentfactory.co.uk on a mobile phone browser, what you see will be slightly different to what a PC user would see on the same page. This allows us to optimise the website for different devices, making the personalisation process equally easy on desktop computers, smartphones, tablets, laptops, and all other devices!

Safety Lifting website

Safety-Lifting.com is a brand new ecommerce website with a wide range of products on offer, including safety equipment, material handling gear, and heavy-duty lifting equipment. The site, which went live earlier this week, is specifically targeted at trade customers (e.g. agents and distributors who will re-sell the goods to their own customers), and so it does differ from the average ecommerce site in several key ways:

  • Site users must register for a trade account before placing any orders; the checkout page cannot be accessed unless you are logged in
  • Safety Lifting's trade prices are only shown to registered trade users
  • The website's design and copy were created with professional traders - rather than retail consumers - in mind

Of course, in spite of these differences, the Safety Lifting site still needed to be as functional and as user-friendly as any other website. Mobile users will notice that the site has a responsive design, allowing it to adapt to any screen size without sacrificing the usability; furthermore, we have made the account signup process as streamlined and as straightforward as possible, making it easy for a busy trader to create their account and complete their purchase without any trouble.
