Floormaker: Ecommerce Flooring WebsiteFloormaker is an established flooring store whose directors have been trading in the flooring industry for decades. They sell a wide range of laminated and real wood flooring, and were keen to expand their offerings into the world of ecommerce. The website we developed utilised a very product-focused design – by this we mean we did a lot of the styling in white so that the photographs of the flooring products would really standout. This approached was very successful, as users are drawn to the wide selection of appealing products rather than being distracted by an unnecessarily elaborate layout. The layout itself is also extremely functional and intuitive – users can navigate their way around the site with a natural ease that makes browsing this site a true pleasure. We also incorporated several key features into this site that sets it apart from other online shopping platforms. These include a flooring calculator, and a free sample feature.
Unique Flooring CalculatorAt a time when the cost of items governs people’s opinions, the bespoke flooring calculator we built was an inspired inclusion. The calculator is conveniently featured on the homepage and allows users to enter their room area to get a quick calculation of the cost of flooring. This kind of feature does well on ecommerce sites as it allows people to make informed decisions, and paints the company in an honest and direct light. Floormaker were particularly pleased with this unique functionality as it reflected their integrity, and sets their flooring website apart from other online stores. Free Sample FeatureAnother integral part of Floormaker’s business is that they send out free samples to prospective customers – up to three samples per person. Everybody loves something for free, and Floormaker want to encourage their customers to make informed decisions about their purchases. Our development team built the site so that you can access free samples via the homepage, but you can also access them on the product pages themselves. The website detects whether or not the customer has selected three or fewer samples and sends them straight to the basket free of charge if applicable. This feature means customers are twice as likely to see the offer of a free sample, and so are twice as likely to make that final purchase – this is crucial in the competitive world of ecommerce.
The Floormaker website also has a great deal of behind-the-scenes reporting and full integration with their Sage accounts system.
Responsive DesignThe Floormaker team noticed that a large portion of their site traffic was coming from mobile devices such as smartphones. They were keen to give these mobile users the best possible browsing experience, and so they asked us to give the Floormaker website a responsive design that would function properly on any device. Thanks to the efforts of our design team, Floormaker.co.uk is now fully responsive, meaning that it looks great and operates flawlessly on mobiles, tablets, and desktop computers alike.
